The Liberal Democrats
•Time and time again, the Liberal Democrats have shown they cannot be trusted to deliver for theBritish people and deceptively campaign against their own positions in elections.
•They want to introduce £86 billion in new taxes, including on energy bills, holidays and fuel, are outof touch with the people’s priorities on key issues like housing, energy and crime and say one thinglocally and another thing nationally to deceive the British people.
•There is only one area where the Liberal Democrats have a consistent position–they would becontent to see Labour in office, dodging difficult decisions and putting up spending and borrowing.The Liberal Democrats want new taxes on essentials like heating and fuel:
•The Liberal Democrats are calling for £86 billion in new taxes, hitting our high streets and hard-working families.The Liberal Democrats’ remain committed to the £49.5 billion of tax rises in their 2019manifesto–including hiking income tax, as well as abolishing Marriage Tax Allowance and the CapitalGains Tax-free Allowance and have also announced new taxes on household heating, fuel, capital gainsand pension relief in order to raise £86.7 billion from the British public.
•The Liberal Democrats are calling for new taxes on household heating, which they admitted ‘willincrease the price of gas and oil for heating’ for struggling families.‘This extension of emissionstrading to fossil fuel suppliers will include suppliers ofgas and oil for household heating... the extensionof emissions trading to fossil fuel supplies will increase the price of gas and oil for heating’.
•The Liberal Democrats want to tax British holidaymakers £210 per flight–putting summer holidaysout of reach for working people.The Liberal Democrats would introduce charges on flights which couldrise to ‘£420 for a ninth annual return flight’ according to Transport spokesperson Wera Hobhouse.
•TheLiberal Democrats want to raise fuel duty by over 11 per cent–slamming struggling motoristswith massive bills.The Liberal Democrats passed a policy at their conference last year calling for‘reinstating the indexation of road fuel duty’ which would mean fuel duty going up in line with annualRetail Price Inflation (RPI)–which stood at 11.6 per cent in 2022.
The Liberal Democrats would return to uncontrolled immigration:
•The LiberalDemocrats want uncontrolled immigration and a return to the EU’s free movement,ignoring the will of the British people.Ed Davey has admitted he regrets coalition immigration measuresand wants to reintroduce freedom of movement. He has vowed that his party would abolish immigrationtargets and replace the majority of detention centres with ‘detention in the community’.
The Liberal Democrats are soft on crime:
•The Liberal Democrats would stop sending people to prison for carrying knives and acid, makingour streets more dangerous.Their Conference adopted a policy of ‘ending mandatory sentences forpossession of knives and corrosive substances’, letting those carrying weapons on our streets off the hook.
